Be A Scientist For A Day
Ever wondered what it’d be like to be a scientist? India Science Festival and TIFR Hyderabad invite you to ‘Be a scientist for a day’ and experience the process of science first-hand with research professionals.
Students and members of the public will get to visit the well-equipped laboratories at TIFR, interact with scientists and science professionals, and try their hands at cool experiments. Limited spots are available for this event and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.
The event is open to everyone over 13 years of age.

Communicating Science Through Cheriyal Art
As part of ISF 2023’s pre-festival events, join us to explore the coming together of science and art at this unique workshop involving the traditional art form of Telangana – Cheriyal Scroll Painting, on 18th January 2023, 10 am – 2 pm at the G P Birla Archaeological, Astronomical & Scientific Research Institute & B M Birla Science Centre and Planetarium, Hyderabad.
Traditional folk arts like Cheriyal represent indigenous knowledge and values, and at this workshop, we will explore modern scientific ideas and concepts using this art form. What’s more? Selected artwork developed by participants at this workshop will be on display at ISF 2023.
About workshop coordinators:
Bitasta Das is an author, educator, TEDx Speaker and Senior Editor, and Instructor-Humanities at the Indian Institute of Science, Banglore. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and has been at the forefront of bridging the gap between folk art and science. Her book “Arting Science'' is lauded as a pioneer work on communicating science with Indian folk art.
Saikiran Verma is an artist based in Hyderabad with an interest and expertise in Cheriyal art. Saikiran Varma received this art as a legacy from his great-grandfather Venkatramiah, grandfather Chandraiah (National Awardee) and father Nageshwar Varma (National Awardee).

Explore History & Science at Qutub Shahi Tombs
Are you interested in getting an exciting glimpse into the ancient history of Hyderabad through science? Look no further. As a pre-festival event, India Science Festival in association with The Aga Khan Trust for Culture is organizing a guided walk through the Qutub Shahi Tombs to enliven the science behind the conservation of heritage monuments peppered with intriguing snippets from history, on January 17th & 18th, 2023, from 4 pm - 6 pm. Limited spots are available for this event and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.
